![]() ![]() Set up - Long Med Med Med-High Mid Mid Soft Soft Hard Gravel Left-Foot Braking. I think they have the times muddled up on the high scores page, which would explain why the HISTORIC Monte Carlo SS2 is the ONLY stage on which the Historic cars DON'T hold the stage record. I'm still not convinced the Historic group (RS200) is quicker than the Extreme class (Xsara Ex). The RS200 possibly has performance similar to the Extreme class, once you've set it up correctly and learnt to control it (Try 55% Rear braking if it oversteers.Haven't they got that the wrong way round? You'd think rear brakes, like a handbrake, cause MORE oversteer). The RS200 has a higher top speed (c.160mph) than the Audi Quattro (152mph) and also handles better, so go with the Ford ahead of the Audi. You can semi-auto shift up through the gears to achieve short ratio performance, yet keeping the higher top speed, so you get the best of both worlds (NB - This may not be true for all cars or stages). You'll have a higher top speed and you'll have longer to decide on whether or not you need to semi-auto shift up or down (R1 and L1). Also, despite little differences between Short and Long, always have gear ratios set to 'Long'. But invariably your car will benefit from a Medium or Medium-High ride height, even on good asphalt surfaces, to help with stability, especially upon cutting corners. ![]() Then, you'll need to 'Create New Set Up' and name it before you can alter settings individually. Only change from 'Recommended Settings' if you have experience with a stage or rally. Both have higher top speeds than their rivals. Plus it's small and hits less trees, etc.ġ600 - Punto. It'll give you the most reliable performance and has World Rally Championship-winning pedigree, with Marcus Grönholm in 2000 & 2002. Again, similar cars, but go with the Peugeot 206. The Subaru is comfortably the best in the group. According to the default high scores, the Historic cars hold all the fastest times (except for Monte Carlo SS2), but I'm sure the Extreme group cars are faster and the times were just made up!Ĭoncept - Subaru. Other cars may reach maximum speed too often, but the Ford RS200 has the next highest top speed and handles better than the S1. The Audi Sport Quattro S1 easily has the highest top speed in this group and handles well enough for most rallies. I believe the Xsara Extreme to be the best car in the game, overall. Same applies as with the WRC cars, except the Peugeot 307 has 6 gears and can be considered an option. But, all cars can achieve very similar times once you've got used to them and got the correct settings for the road conditions.Įxtreme - Xsara. The Mitsubishi Lancer has the highest top speed, however, it has no significant affect on any of the stages. The Xsara is possibly the most forgiving ride and requires less luck and is most consistent. All Cars have virtually identical acceleration and top speeds, except for the Peugeot 307, which is missing a 6th gear and is therefore too slow. Beginners could try 'Bonnet (Hood) Cam', or the nearest 'Chase Cam' if they're unfamiliar with a stage and need to see more of the road ahead. Although it may not be as good as the steering-wheeled cockpit view you have in 'Colin McRae 5', it still shows up smashed windscreens (windshields), dirt and water for authenticity. 'Cockpit Cam' is the best and most realistic way to play WRC and gives you pin-point accuracy once you're familiar with the game. Perhaps once you've mastered the game you could try playing with no assists at all, but you'll probably find you're 10 seconds slower than you were before. Try to convince yourself that it's just 'Power Steering' and 'Traction Control' like they have in real rallying anyway. The game is playable without assists, but the stage times are not usually achievable. Put them on at maximum settings, except for the brake assist, because that'll just slow you down. Ideally we shouldn't need driver aids, but the fact is you can't go quickly enough without them on.
